Abstract
Purpose of this study was to investigate the degree of importance and performance about the school nurses' job, and to identify the relationship between them.

Method: The subjects were consisted of 222 school nurses who were working in Jollanamdo from June 15 to July 15, 2003. Data were collected by E-mail with questionnaires to measure the importance and the performance about the school nurses' job. Items in questionnaire of the importance were same as those of the performance. Reliability of the instrument for the importance was Cronbach's a=.94 and that for the performance was .80. Data were analyzed by frequency, mean, t-test, one way ANOVA and Tukey test, and Pearson's correlation using SPSS 10.0 program.

The results may be summarized as follows: 1. The school nurses' demographic characteristics: The mean age was 39.6 years, the most of them were 30-40 generations (85.6%), and married (88.3%). 69.4% of them were working at the elementary, 13.1% were at the middle and 17.5% were at the high school. Mean of their working years was 13.4, and 67.6% of them were working over 10 years. 92.3% of them achieved the teaching courses. 2. There were significant differences of the importance of the school nurses' job in the age (F=3.626, p= .014), the marriage status (t= 2.692, P =.01), the school (F=5.697, p=.004), the number of students (F=3.683, p=.013), and the foundation (t=3.644, p=.002). There were significant differences of the performance of the school nurses' job in the education level (t=2.354, p=.019), the school (F=16.378, p=.001), the number of students (F=6.408, p=.001), and the foundation (t=4.590, p=.001). 3. The degree of importance and performance in school nurses' job by the 5 area: 1) The health room management was the highest score (3.51) in the 5 importance areas, and followed by the health education (3.42), the health care of students & school personnels, (3.40), the plan & evaluation of school health management (3.23), and the school environment hygiene management (2.76). 2) The health care room management was also the highest score (3.86) of the 5 performance areas, and followed by the health care of students & school personnels (3.74), the health education (3.52), the plan & evaluation of school health management (3.47), and the school environment hygiene management(2.84). 3) The school environment hygiene management was the lowest score in both areas of the importance and the performance, and management & purifying activity of school environment hygiene was the lowest score in both contents of the importance and the performance.
4. Correlations between the importance and the performance in 5 areas showed all positive relations (p<.05).

Conclusion: Correlation between degree of the importance and the performance about the school health nurse's job was significant positive relations. The health care room management was the highest score and the management & purifying activity of school environment hygiene was the lowest score in both of the importance and the performance about the school health nurses' job.
